Video games have been around a lot longer than most people realize. The first video game console appeared in 1951. They were played on massive computers called vector displays. The video game console evolved over a course of sixty years.
The first home videogame console appeared in 1972. It was designed by Ralph Baer and was one of the first consoles to be connected to a TV set. It was called the Mangavox Odyssey. It did not have a CPU and had a row of switches that allowed gamers to turn the console on and off to create a variety of games. The years rolled by and in 1983, Nintendo came up with the family computer.
The Nintendo video game console or Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) which originated from Japan had the most detailed graphics of its time. NES systems popularized the now famous video game Super Mario Bros. As the nineties rolled by, Sony released a game charger in the form of the Sony PlayStation.
Sony PlayStation expanded the videogame market by being the first video game console to sell over 100 million units. It was a disc-based system and was viewed as the future of gaming. CD’s were easier to manufacture as opposed to cartridges. It influenced other video game developers to do the same with their consoles. As the world entered the new millennium, so did the PlayStation.
In 2006, Sony released the PS3. It started as a 20 GB system and eventually evolved into a 60 GB storage unit. The PS3 in 2014 is slim line video game console with 500 GB storage space. With the advent in online shopping, gamers can buy PS3 game consoles online.
